General Questions
What kind of tours do you offer?
We offer a wide range of inbound tours including cultural tours, trekking and adventure journeys, festival tours, and customized topical tours such as photography, birdwatching, botany, spiritual pilgrimages, and more. Every trip is personally curated based on your interests and travel goals.
Is Bhutan safe to travel to?
Yes. Bhutan is one of the safest destinations in the world. Crime rates are low, and our local communities are warm and welcoming. Nonetheless, travelers should take basic precautions and follow local guidelines, especially during hikes and high-altitude treks.
What is included in the tour price?
In general, our tour packages include accommodation, all meals, transportation within Bhutan, entrance fees to sights, a certified guide, and all government royalties and taxes. Flights and travel insurance are not included. A complete breakdown is provided before payment.
Traveler Information & Privacy
What personal information do you need from me?
Initially, we only ask for basic details of the lead traveler to start communication and draft your itinerary. Once your payment is received, we will collect detailed information offline for all travelers, including passport details, emergency contacts, and any medical/dietary requirements.
Why do you collect information offline?
We do this for your privacy and security. Sensitive information is handled manually to ensure it is not stored or transmitted through the website or cloud. This gives our travelers added peace of mind that their personal data is safe.
Will you share my personal information with anyone?
We only use your data to apply for your Bhutan visa and arrange your travel. We do not sell or share your information with third parties unless required by immigration authorities or service providers directly involved in your tour. Read more in our Privacy Policy.
Booking & Payments
How do I book a tour with Phuentshok Tours & Treks?
You can begin by submitting your desired itinerary via our website. Once you hit “Confirm Booking,” a tentative booking is generated, and you’ll receive an email with an estimated cost. Do not make payment yet. We will manually review your selection to ensure everything is in order and follow up with a final confirmation and payment instructions.
How do I make the payment?
We accept international wire transfers only. All payment details will be securely shared via email after your booking is finalized. We do not collect or process online payment information on our website.
Can I pay in installments?
No. All payments must be made in full prior to visa processing and travel arrangements. Partial payments are not accepted.
When is my booking confirmed?
Your booking is officially confirmed only after full payment is received. International bank transfers typically take 5 business days to reflect. Once payment clears, we will proceed with your visa and finalize the rest of your trip.
Changes, Cancellations & Refunds
Can I make changes after booking?
Minor adjustments to your itinerary may be possible, depending on the nature of the change and timing. Let us know as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be submitted in writing. Refunds vary depending on how many days in advance you cancel. For full details, please refer to our Cancellation Policy.
Health, Safety & Travel Insurance
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and baggage loss. Bhutan’s healthcare system is reliable but limited in remote areas, so insurance is your safety net.
Are there any health requirements?
There are no mandatory vaccinations for entering Bhutan, but you should be in reasonably good health. If you’re trekking or visiting high-altitude areas, consult your doctor in advance. Please notify us of any pre-existing medical conditions.
Visa & Travel Documents
Do I need a visa to enter Bhutan?
Yes, all foreign travelers (except Indian nationals) require a visa. Once your booking and payment are complete, we will apply for your visa on your behalf. You will receive a visa clearance document via email which you must print and carry during travel.
How long does visa processing take?
Visa processing begins only after we receive your full payment and all necessary traveler details. Approval typically takes a few business days, though we recommend completing this step at least 2 weeks before travel.
What documents should I carry?
Bring a valid passport (with at least 6 months of validity from your travel date), a printed copy of your visa clearance, and a copy of your travel insurance policy. We’ll remind you of all necessary documents during pre-departure.
Before You Arrive
When should I book my flight?
We recommend booking your flight after receiving visa approval. Bhutan has a limited number of flight routes operated by Bhutan Airlines and Drukair. We’re happy to advise you on the best travel windows and routes.
What should I pack?
We’ll provide a packing list based on your itinerary. In general, you’ll want comfortable walking shoes, warm layers, a rain jacket, sun protection, and your essential personal items. For treks, we’ll guide you on specific gear and clothing.
Can I get a SIM card or internet access?
Yes, local SIM cards are available upon arrival. Most hotels offer Wi-Fi, but speeds may vary. If you require reliable mobile data, we recommend purchasing a Bhutanese SIM for the duration of your stay. There are only two service providers, B-Mobile and TashiCell.
On the Ground in Bhutan
Will someone pick me up at the airport?
Yes, your guide and driver will meet you at the airport upon arrival. From that moment on, we’ll take care of all ground transportation and logistics until your departure.
Is tipping expected?
Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated if you are happy with the service. As a guideline, many travelers offer tips to guides and drivers at the end of their trip.
What is the local currency, and can I use credit cards?
The local currency is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN). Indian Rupees are also widely accepted. Credit cards are accepted at some hotels and shops, but we recommend carrying cash for small purchases, especially in rural areas.
